Keep an eye out for the following signs that your child might be at risk on the internet:

• Your child is spending large amounts of time online (particularly late into the night), loses track of time when online and / or disobeys time limits for internet usage, becoming angry or agitated when their online time is ended

• Your child quickly changes the screen monitor or turns off the computer when you enter the room

• Your child is being secretive about their online activity

• You notice changes in your child’s behavior such as sleeping problems, withdrawal from family life, moodiness or irritability when not online, inappropriate sexual knowledge or loss of interest in activities that were previously enjoyable for them

• You find pornography on your child’s computer

• Your child is hiding disks or other data storage devices

• You notice links to inappropriate web sites in the

  history section of your child’s web browser

• Your child receives phone calls or mail from

  people you don’t know, or is making calls to numbers you don’t recognize

• Your child is using an online account belonging to someone else

• Your child is forming new online relationshipswhile neglecting real-life friendships
